My Story — Jane, Founder of Aurobelle

I grew up in Germany in a wonderfully unconventional family of artists.

Our world was colourful, creative and sometimes a little crazy—filled with painters, rock ’n’ roll characters, travellers and people who chose their own path. Art was not something we visited in a museum. It was simply part of everyday life.

When I was eight, my hippy parents brought me to Ibiza for the first time. Something about the island stayed with me: its freedom, its eccentricity, its light and the feeling that life could be lived differently.

That feeling would follow me everywhere.

I later studied fashion in Paris, but I was never meant for a life that stayed in one place. I became a Lufthansa flight attendant and travelled the world. Every journey opened another door, but India changed everything.

I went there alone with a backpack, travelling through the Himalayas, Auroville and places far beyond the usual route. I discovered colour, textiles, craftsmanship and a way of living that spoke to something deep inside me.

Then life took another turn. I became pregnant and moved to Ibiza with my child and my mother.

I brought my first dresses to Las Dalias Hippy Market. There was no grand business plan. I simply had pieces I loved and wanted to share them. People responded, so I returned to India and began making more.

In Goa, I opened my first tiny shop in a beach shack in Morjim. Later came shops in Anjuna and Baga. Those years were full of movement, experimentation and discovery. It was there that I developed some of the pieces that would become part of Aurobelle’s identity: the famous Aurobelle dress, flowing chiffon dresses and colourful collections for children.

For many years, I continued selling at Ibiza’s hippy markets, carrying ideas, fabrics and stories between India and the island.

After the birth of my second child, I opened an Aurobelle boutique in Santa Gertrudis in 2008. The business grew. Wholesale became a great success, the website followed, and in 2015 we opened our second Ibiza shop in San Josep.

What began with a few dresses at a hippy market had become something much bigger.

But underneath it all, Aurobelle has always been the story of my life: growing up among artists, discovering Ibiza as a child, travelling the world, falling in love with India, becoming a mother and finding the courage to create something of my own.

It has never been only about clothes.

It is about colour, freedom and the beauty of things made by human hands. It is about women dressing for themselves rather than following rules. It is about the people we meet, the places that change us and the unexpected journeys that lead us home.

Now I am entering a new chapter.

I no longer want more simply for the sake of more. I want to simplify. I want to focus on the pieces and stories that truly matter. I want Aurobelle to feel personal, creative and alive—and I want the freedom to enjoy what I have spent so many years creating.

Perhaps that is where Aurobelle began all along:
