What is slow fashion ?
Modern day Slow Fashion has seen some of these old ways come back into the picture. It encourages us to buy less garments at higher quality, made from more sustainable processes, less often. It also puts emphasis on the art of clothes making and celebrates the skills of the craftspeople who make them.
what is the difference ?
BLOCK PRINTING
Woodblock printing on textiles is the process of printing patterns on textiles, usually of linen, cotton or silk, by means of incised wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing. There is evidence that it was practiced as early as the fifth century BC, with actual fragments found from as early as the fifteenth century in India, China and Japan.
The drawings are hand carved into rosewood blocks which are then used as stamps to transfer the prints on to the fabrics. It is necessary only to ink the block and bring it into firm and even contact with the cloth to achieve the desired print. For color printing, multiple blocks are used, each for one color.
Even though block printing by hand is an extremely slow process, it is capable of yielding highly artistic results, some of which unobtainable by any other method.
Working closely with a skilled team of printers in Rajasthan to collaboratively produce exclusive collections of hand-block printed fabrics, Aurobelle promotes a synergy between design, development and sustainability, inspiring good business practices and the continuing revitalization of traditional skills.
Why it is more sustainable ?
Sustainable fashion entails making things out of local, biodegradable fabric that can eventually return to the ecosystem after you have worn it out. Textile isn't wasted, chemicals are used in production, therefore reducing the pollution caused.
We at Aurobelle use only organic cotton as our grey fabric, mostly we choose plant based colour and dyes over chemical colour.
We work in with small communties and artisans and encourage woman empowerment with clean and happy work environment and fair wages .
We produce a small limited unique collection , keeping in harmony the flow of life, nature and our planet earth.
Thank you for supporting slow fashion .
